Chain of Responsibility
We at TOP Transport believe that CoR is an ongoing concern and are committed to encouraging consultation and co-operation between management, workers and customers to keep open communication to monitor and respond to any and all safety concerns.
On the 1st October 2018, CoR laws were amended to align more closely with workplace health and provisions.
This means that all parties in the supply chain must take reasonable steps to reduce risk related to the safety of transport jobs.
We at TOP Transport have broken down our CoR responsibilities into 3 essential components:
- Driver Fatigue
- Vehicle Maintenance and Speed Compliance
- Load Restraint and Mass Dimension Limits

Driver Fatigue
It is TOP Transport policy that workers are not to be required to work more than 12 hours per any 24 hour period, and that all driving and rest periods must be followed, as per their Work Diary. Rosters are designed to ensure that workers are provided with reasonable rest periods between shifts and that driver completes a daily run sheet in addition to NHVR Work Diaries, which are reviewed for compliance.
Vehicle Maintenance and Speed Compliance
All of TOP Transport heavy vehicles are speed limited and drivers are instructed to follow all speed limits in their induction for driving for TOP Transport. We have an in-house maintenance manager using the GEARBOX system for all repairs and servicing of our vehicles to centralising this information so that we can better record and maintain the fleet.
Load Restraint and Mass and Dimension Limits
Drivers upon starting with TOP Transport are inducted and supervised for a week to assess their capability. JSA are available to drivers as required and a driver's checklist has been integrated into the job sheets so that every job is to be assessed.
Every truck carries lights, over width signs and a wide load permit for over dimensional loads. TOP's allocator considers driver experience and knowledge for job assignment, however all vehicles are equipped with intra-communication so that drivers can converse on more difficult loads.
